The Forward Award is a program established in 1998 to annually recognize
Wisconsin organizations for significant achievements in continuous
improvement and performance management. It also serves to encourage all
Wisconsin organizations to assess their operations against rigorous standards
and to strive for the level of excellence that distinguishes the best managed
organizations around the world.
The Wisconsin Forward Award is patterned after the Malcom Baldrige National
Quality Award. It adopts the 1998 Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence
as the basis for Forward Award recognition. In doing so, Wisconsin joins over
40 other states which use the Baldrige Criteria for awards and recognition.
Used by organizations across the nation and around the world, the Criteria
provide consistent and rigorous standards, a proven measurement system, and
improvement benchmarks for organizations serious about improving performance
and competing in the global economy.
The Forward Award recognizes organizations which are making progress on their
journey to excellence, at what ever their level of achievement. At the same
time, the Forward Award program encourages the use of the Criteria for
self-assessment and organiztional learning. It provides learning opportunities
and self-assessment tools which can be used by every Wisconsin organization
in their efforts to continuously improve.
