
Kathleen Pakes serves as legal counsel for the Agency. She previously held elected office as the Rusk County district attorney from 2001 through 2009. During that tenure she received the Meritorious Service Award from the Wisconsin Association of Homicide Investigators in 2007, and was named the E. Michael McCann Prosecutor of the Year in 2009. She served as the governor’s district attorney designee to the judicial council, as a supreme court appointment to the office of lawyer regulation district 11 committee, and as a board member of local non-profits, including the Time-Out Family Abuse Shelter, the Rusk County Hockey Association, the Tender Learning Center, and the Rusk County Community Foundation.
After graduating from UW Madison in 1991 with a degree in Soviet and Eastern European studies and from Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville in 1995, she did a short stint in private practice before taking a position as a staff attorney for the Louisville-Jefferson County public defender’s office from 1997 to 2000.
